The Department of Philosophy at the College of Arts held a seminar titled "Richard Mervin Herr and the Code of Ethics: An Analytical Review"

This session, presented by Dr Nawal Taha Yaseen,  examined the nature of the relationship between the language code and ethics.

In this session, the linguistic turn was discussed and how it dominated the 20th century philosophy, which does not surprise the reader anymore. The modern philosophy of language writers were talked about considering them as philosophers thinking and speaking about the preferred ways by which the ethical concepts can be used.

The session aimed t studying the role of the language code to Herr in examining the ethical concepts. It has been found that the expressive language is one of the important means used to uncover the ethical act in terms of ideology, speech and action. The statements having ethical values can provide an ethical motive to man as a linguistic animal because the various ethical philosophies could not urge man to do what is ethical. This is because these establish the principle of conflict instead of the dialogue based on the principle of respect. Herr thus focused on exceeding the stage of linguistic silence advocated by Wittgenstein to reach the original linguistic expression.
