On Tuesday, 9/11/2021, the Department of Philosophy at the College of Arts/ University of Basrah organized a panel discussion entitled Optimism and Pessimism in Greek Philosophy (Selected Models of Plato and Stoicism).
The panel discussion presented by Prof. Dr. Maha Issa Al-Abdullah included an understanding of optimism and pessimism through the interpretation of what Plato's personal positions and philosophy reflect to us on the one hand, and what the stoicism philosophers' positions and their philosophy reflect to us on the other hand, and focusing on what is meant by optimism, which represents a real awareness of human, which helps him to understand everything that surrounds him, in contrast to pessimism, which reflects the inability of human to understand everything that surrounds him.
The panel discussion focused on the philosophy of Plato and the Stoic philosophy on the importance of optimism as it represents a positive attitude that reflects the human awareness of the problems he faces and his attempt to adapt to them, while pessimism reflects the negative attitude of the person towards the problems he faces, revealing his inability to adapt to them.
