Overview of The Information and Knowledge Technologies Department

Brief history

 

The department was established in 1983, teaching began in the academic year 1984-1985 and the first class of undergraduate studies students graduated in 1987-1988.

The department aims to prepare specialists and researchers in libraries and information science, prepare the teaching staff to work in the departments of library science, enrich the Iraqi and Arab libraries with information and libraries literature through authoring, researching and translating, provide technical consultation for libraries, information centers and relevant institutions, as well as to exchange training and technical experiences through cooperation and coordination with the corresponding departments inside and outside Iraq.

 

Vision

In conformity with the goals and vision of the college, the department has identified its vision as follows:

1- creative diversity in the subjects, sections,and curricula of Libraries and Information major.

2- Innovation and proficiency in education and research.

3- Effective contribution to the community, culture and research services.

 

 

Message

 

The message of the department is to:

1- focus on the knowledge acquisition and develop scientific and critical thinking skills.

2- stress the importance of Libraries and Information major and its role in the inclusive development of society.

3- promote innovation in education, research, community services and professional practices.

4- support the respect for ethical values in education, research, community services and professional practices for Libraries and Information specialists.

 

Goals

The goals of the department is to:

1- provide study programs during the undergraduate level to prepare skilled specialist in Libraries and Information who are able to manage and develop information institutions and improve information services.

2- provide study programs for postgraduate studies that contribute in serving scientific research in Libraries and Information major, and serving students to high level in terms of science, profession and ethics.

3- contribute to serve the community and its institutions via continual training and education, as well as offering consultancy services.

4- prepare successive generations of members of academic staff who have the ability of continual self-development and superior college performance.
