Discussion of the Student Milad Alaa Abdul Kareem’s Thesis

On Wednesday morning, 24/11/2021, in the Department of Arabic Language in the College of Arts, a Master thesis entitled “Poetry Rhythm in the Modern Arabic Lesson, a study in the book The Guide to Understanding Arab Poetry and Its Composition by Dr. Abdullah Al-Tayeb as a model” was discussed.

The thesis presented by the student Milad Alaa Abdul Kareem included three chapters. The first chapter discussed the rhythm of the ancient critics. The second chapter included the external rhythm of Dr. Abdullah Al-Tayyib in his book Al-Murshid and its criticism. The third chapter discussed the internal rhythm of Dr. Abdullah Al-Tayeb in his book Al-Murshid and its criticism.

The thesis aims to study the poetic rhythm in the modern lesson by relying on the inductive method of the book Al-Murshid by Dr. Abdullah Al-Tayeb and to identify the most important changes that occurred in his poetic rhythm.

The thesis concluded that Dr. Abdullah Al-Tayeb had come up with new names for poetic meter other than what was known to the ancients, as well as describing the music of each meter. As for the internal rhythm, he used four elements of the rhetorical arts, which are: repetition, alliteration, antithesis, and division.
