In the presence of the Dean of the College of Arts, Prof. Dr. Majid Abdul Hameed Al Kaabi, the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abd Kazem, and a large number of instructors and students, the Department of Arabic held, within its weekly cultural curriculum, a panel discussion that dealt with the news in the ancient Arabic narrative and the authority of interpretation presented by Prof. Dr. Louay Hamza Abbas and moderated by Prof. Dr. Aqeel Abdul-Hussein.
The panel discussion provided illuminations on the definition of the news, and its importance in the ancient Arab narrative system. Dr. Louay Hamza Abbas divided the authorities that dealt with the old news into three, the first is the authority of the center, the second is the authority of the margin, and the third is the authority of interpretation. He emphasized, "The news has influence, action and presence based on the intersection of these three authorities, and as long as the news is for an unknown author, it has become a kind of public property enjoying freedom of space and flexibility of form, which gave the news freedom of movement between the three authorities, the center, the margin, and interpretation."
In his reading, he referred to what the ancient Arabic narration literature provides of news material that illuminates many aspects of Arab cultural life, taking from Abi Hayyan Al-Tawhidi's book (Enjoyment and Bonhomie) as an applied material.
