The instructor at the History Department at the College of Arts / University of Basrah, Prof. Dr. Nazim Rashem Maatouq, participated with his research entitled (The Allegation of Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Qahtani’s Mahdism and the Incident of Seizing the Great Mosque in 1979) in the Tenth Annual International Scientific Conference, which was held by Al-Kadhimiya Holy Shrine between 10-11  / December 2021 under the slogan (The Mahdism Issue between the Philosophy of Waiting and the Challenges of Emergence) and 29 researchers from inside and outside Iraq participated in it.

The modern research included the claim of Mahdism by Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Qahtani and the seizure by his companion and son-in-law, Juhayman Al-Otaibi, of the Great Mosque of Mecca at dawn on November 20, 1979, and the Saudi government was able to eliminate the movement after two weeks.

Dr. Nazim Rashem Maatouq also chaired the fourth session of the conference, which was held in (the gallery of Sayyid Abdullah bin Abdul Muttalib, peace be upon him) on 11/12/2021.
