“The Multifaceted Role of the Translator” by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Al-Tarabin from the Islamic University of Gaza / Palestine

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Arts, Prof. Dr. Majid Abdul Hameed Al-Kaabi, and within the cultural program of the College of Arts, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Al-Tarabin gave a lecture, entitled "The Multifaceted Role of the Translator", in an electronic meeting on the platform of the cultural unit in the college, on Wednesday 29/12/2021 at 7 pm.

The lecture talked about the translator's role in various types of texts and how he can intervene consciously or subconsciously to change the ideas and messages that the original text reflects.  

It emphasized on a set of tools through which it is possible to measure the extent of the translator's intervention, the most important of which is the critical analysis of the discourse.  It also touched on the challenges that the translator may face which push him/ her to introduce extraneous points of view on the text.

It is noteworthy that Al-Tarabin is a researcher, translator and university professor from Palestine. He has several books dealing with the translation of texts between Arabic and English, the most important of which are books issued by the British publishing house Raw Ledge.
