
On Wednesday morning, 5/1/2022, a master thesis, entitled “Information Sources used in Licensed Theses at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Basrah: An Analytical Study”, was discussed in the Department of Libraries and Knowledge Technologies.
The thesis presented by the student Mayada Khazal Rahman included three chapters. The first chapter discussed the general framework of the study. The second chapter dealt with the theoretical side and includes two topics (the first topic: sources of information and the second topic: bibliometric studies). The third chapter included the practical side (analytical study) for reference citations for PhD, master and Higher diploma theses in the departments of the College of Administration and Economics for the period from 2015-2019.
The thesis aims to identify the types of information sources contained in theses and dissertations (traditional and electronic) and to analyze the bibliographic signals used in theses and dissertations.
The thesis concluded the type of writing, productivity, type of bibliographical references, time periods, topics of references, and gender of the author in these theses.
The thesis recommended paying attention to bibliometric studies, as well as directing researchers towards citing electronic sources.
