At the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Arts / University of Basrah, a master thesis, entitled (The Linguistic Sign in Language and the Qur’an - a Semantic Grammatical study), was discussed.
The thesis presented by the student Amira Qassem Muhammad included a preface, four chapters, a conclusion, and results. The preface included entrance to the vision in the linguistic and non-linguistic sign, the first chapter discussed the phonetic sign, the second chapter dealt with the morphological sign, the third chapter discussed the grammatical sign, and the fourth chapter dealt with the semiotic sign.
The researcher indicated that the purpose of the presence of language is the communication between individuals, as the Holy Qur'an in saying: "O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.”. When God created the earth and spread humans in it, He created with them the language of communication, and this language has different forms, either it is spoken or written or it is in the form of signs and symbols in the light of which the desired goal is known.
This language, in its various forms, had many studies, for scholars of different ages made great efforts to find out its origin and importance. They devoted books and special topics to it, but talking about language as signs have not received an independent study, language has attracted the sign in two main ways: the linguistic sign and the non-linguistic sign.
What concerns us in this research is the linguistic signs that specialize in both spoken and written languages, so we study them from different aspects (phonetic, morphological, grammatical, and semiotic), so this research came as an explanation and analysis of the concept of the linguistic sign and its levels.
