The research aimed to identify the reality of public libraries in Basrah governorate in terms of (location, buildings, furniture, equipment, staffing, library collections and services provided) and also to identify the characteristics of their beneficiaries and their categories. The results of the study showed the following:

1. There are no specialists in information and libraries working in any of the libraries of Al-Qurna and Al-Mdaina districts within Basrah governorate, and most of the staff in the Al-Qurna and Al-Mdaina libraries are from other specializations, and most of them hold a high school certificate.

2. The beneficiaries expressed their satisfaction with the location in which the two districts libraries are located, but they expressed their dissatisfaction with the library collection and the level and quality of services provided by both libraries despite the availability of internet.

5. The dilapidated building of the public library in Al-Qurna district needs restoration, reconstruction and rehabilitation, and it also needs other rooms.

6. The furniture of the two libraries is outdated and some of it is dilapidated, and it does not fit the position of the library as a cultural and social destination.

7. Work devices and equipment need updating and renewal.

8. The two libraries announce their activities and events by posting them on their Facebook pages, as well as using social media applications for this purpose.
