On Monday morning, 28/2/2022, a master’s thesis, entitled (Pragmatic Denotations in the Speeches of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, from his Refusal to Pledge Allegiance to the Day of His Martyrdom), was discussed at the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Arts / University of Basrah.
The thesis presented by the student Abdul-Hakim Jassim Muhammad included three chapters. The first chapter discussed personal signs, the second chapter dealt with spatio-temporal signs, and the third chapter discussed social and rhetorical signs.
The thesis aims to identify the deliberative aspects of the religious discourse represented here in the speech of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, in a difficult stage of his life, which is full of various indications that Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, employed in several situations during his long journey to restore human values after their absence due to the political situation in that period.
The thesis concluded that the denotations that appeared in the speeches of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, were varied, and the function in the text and sentence played a prominent role in his speech after the different pronouns occupied a space to define the Husseini cause, which is the extension of the Muhammadiyah message.
