Basrah University Organizes a Course on Manuscripts and Their Importance in Historical Writing

On Monday, 1/3/2022, the Department of History at the College of Arts/ University of Basrah organized a course entitled Manuscripts and their importance in historical writing.

The course, which was presented by the Head of the History Department, Prof. Dr. Raghad Faisal Abdel-Wahab, Prof. Dr. Tawfiq Dawai Al-Hajjaj, and Prof. Dr. Iman Shamkhi Jaber, aims to introduce the postgraduate students in the Department of History to manuscripts in terms of their historical importance to the researcher through the course’s focus on the manuscript, its writing, methods of preservation and copying, as well as studying the historical material, analyzing it and criticizing it, verifying manuscripts and making corrections to them.

 

The course included several topics, the most important of which were:

 - Methods of preserving manuscripts.

 - The difference between paper, mural, and archaeological manuscripts.

 - Verification.

 - Rectification.

 

The researchers in the course called for the need to preserve the manuscripts and to provide all ways and means for the purpose of preserving these precious knowledge treasures through media promotion, holding workshops and courses on manuscripts, and addressing the competent authorities represented by the University of Basrah to help preserve them.
