Basrah University Organizes a Scientific Trip to the Abbasid palaces

On Thursday, 10/3/2022, the History Department at the College of Arts / University of Basrah organized a scientific trip for second-year students to Al-Zubayr monuments, accompanied by a group of professors from the department.

The trip included a visit to the Abbasid palaces and a visit to the cemetery of Al-Hassan al-Basri, including the graves of important Basra figures such as the shrines of Al-Hassan al-Basri and Ibn Sirin in Islamic times, the grave of Basra treasurer Sabri Effendi, the grave of the poet Badr Shakir al-Sayyab and others. The trip also included a visit to the Mosque of Imam Ali bin Abi Talib, peace be upon him.

The professors and students invested their presence in the cemetery of Al-Hassan Al-Basri to visit the graves of a number of professors of the College of Arts who were buried there, headed by the grave of the late Prof. Dr. Adel Ismail, as well as the grave of Dr. Abdul Rahman from the Department of Geography.

On the other hand, the professors discussed a number of recommendations directed to the authorities concerned with preserving heritage and the scientific and cultural departments at the University of Basrah, by giving a great deal of importance to neglected antiquities and the need for the university, with its specialized professors, to take the task of developing archaeological sites, as well as the need to establish a museum for ancient archaeological waste as well as the ancient waste that depicts the distinctive character of Al-Zubair. The professors took the initiative to provide explanations and answer students’ questions in the sites they visited.
