Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Arts, Prof. Dr. Majid Abdul Hameed Al Kaabi, and under the supervision of the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, the Department of History at the College of Arts, in cooperation with the Iraq Center for Human Rights, organized on Tuesday 15/3/2022 a scientific symposium entitled (Domestic Violence in Iraqi Society, its Threats and Effects).
The symposium, which was presented by the instructor Dr. Muhannad Abdul Aziz, Dr. Wafaa Yassin Najm, and the Director of the Iraq Center, Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Abadi, aims to shed light on domestic violence in Iraqi society, which has increased in all institutions, in schools and in the family, and has taken multiple forms, which may be physical, psychological or moral violence, despite the imposition of penalties on anyone who practices this.
The symposium included several topics, the most important of which were:
1- The most important reasons that led to violence.
2- Treatments and their effects.
3- Recommendations about the necessity of activating human rights organizations in order to raise awareness of society.
In the symposium, the researchers called for the need to activate the rights of Iraqi women and to renounce violence against them in all its forms. The researchers also called for holding symposiums in this regard.
