The Department of Translation at the College of Arts Visits the Supreme Judicial Council

Within the framework of the foundation of cooperation with state institutions, and under the supervision of the head of the Translation Department, Prof. Zainab Sami Hawwal, the students of the fourth stage in the Department of Translation / College of Arts made a scientific visit to the Supreme Judicial Council / Basra Federal Court of Appeal, accompanied by the legal translation professor, the assistant instructor Ahmed Faleh Rabie, the translator Istabraq Ali Mahdi and the master's student Nada Kazem Dakhil.

The visit included a meeting of this group with the President of the Basra Federal Court of Appeal, Mr. Adel Abdul Razzaq Abbas, who explained to the students about the departments and types of Iraqi courts and the services they provide, and explained the importance of translation today, stressing the need of these courts for a legal translator for the role he plays in enabling the court to take important decisions regarding foreign nationalities working in Iraq.

Accompanied by the director of the media department in the court, the group then went to the judge of the International Police Court, Mr. Qahtan Majid, who showed remarkable interest in the students and explained to them the great role of the legal translator in the digital time.

Then the group met the judge of the Commercial Court, Mr. Mustafa Shaker Ali, who also explained about the importance of the legal translator in the era of globalization.

The two parties called on the university and the judiciary to strengthen cooperation frameworks between them due to the latter's need for specialized translation staff to facilitate their daily work to look into commercial and residency issues and what is related to them represented by the international police.
