Basrah University Holds its Annual Scientific Conference Under the Title of Women and the Challenges of Globalization

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Arts, Prof. Dr. Majid Abdul Hameed Al Kaabi, and in the presence of the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abd Kazem Al Khafaji, and the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Dr. Haider Abdul Redha Al-Tamimi, and under the slogan “Women are the Guide to Community Strength and Life Success,” the College of Arts, in cooperation with the Women Empowerment Unit at the University of Basrah, established its first women's scientific conference, which was held under the title (Women and the Challenges of Globalization).

The ceremony began with verses from the Holy Quran and listening to the national anthem. Then the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs delivered a speech in which he welcomed the distinguished guests, praising their distinguished efforts and stressing the role of women in Iraqi society and their participation in aspects of life, referring to the women’s attendance and their participation in presenting working papers as evidence that women are an important element in the Iraqi society, and that the Islamic religion has given women their rights and status and preserved their dignity, and because the university fully believes in their role, as it has always been the first in sponsoring activities that support women.

The conference included several research papers delivered in two sessions, the first chaired by Prof. Dr. Salma Abdel Hameed Al Hashemi, and Prof. Dr. Amal Abdel Rahman Abdel Wahed, which revolved around women and globalization by Mrs. Wathiqa Al Moamen, President of Businesswomen’s Association of the Southern Region.

The second research was entitled Iraqi Women's Rights and Sustainable Development by Assistant Professor of Private Law Etidal Abdul Baqi Yousef Al-Adb.  Dr. Batool Al-Arandas from the Republic of Lebanon also participated in the conference, with her research entitled “Women in the era of globalization” through the Internet.

In the second session, five research papers were discussed. The first research dealt with the songs of the Shatt al-Arab, and the second research (online) included (the role of education in empowering women) by Assistant Professor Dr. Alia Hussein Khalaf Al-Zarkoshi from Diyala University, the third research dealt with (Women and Electronic Extortion) by the instructor Dr. Wafaa Yassin Najm Hammadi from Basrah University/College of Law, the fourth research focused on (the crisis of the cultural identity of women) by Assistant Professor Dr. Intisar Adnan Al-Awwad, Department of History/College of Arts, and the fifth research was entitled (The Representation of Cultural Identity among Young Iraqi Basri Women as Constructed in their Personal Life Stories) by Dr. Afaneen Al-Dirawi.

The sixth research dealt with (the impact of globalization on the language of daily life) by instructor Dr. Ikhlas Abdel Salam Abdel Bari and instructor Dr. Awatef Ahmed Rasan.

At the conclusion of the first day, the session dealt with several interventions that enriched the session with opinions and ideas on women and society and the effects of globalization on Iraqi society.
