The Department of Philosophy at the College of Arts / University of Basrah organized a scientific symposium entitled The Problem of Atheism in Contemporary Thought: a philosophical discourse approach.
The symposium aims to identify the issue of atheism, which is one of the major problems facing human societies because it represents a state that ravages the beliefs, ideas and values of societies and threatens their morals and values. Therefore, the symposium was devoted to standing on this issue, searching for its intellectual, psychological, and social roots and premises, searching for solutions and treatments that can address this issue and limiting it, and presenting intellectual and practical frameworks to clarify the truth and seriousness of this issue.
The symposium dealt with several themes, the most important of which are:
1- Factors of atheism in human societies.
2- Atheism: Roots.
3- Atheism: Origin and History.
The symposium dealt with talking about the psychological factors behind the phenomenon of atheism and social and intellectual factors, as well as talking about the origins of the roots of atheism in Greek philosophy, the medieval era, the era of reform, renaissance and contemporary atheism and its difference from the previous atheism in terms of subject matter.
