In the presence of the President of the University of Basrah, Prof. Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, accompanied by the Dean of the College of Arts, Prof. Majid Abdul Hameed Al-Kaabi, and on the sidelines of the Basrah University Week celebrations, the President of the University honored the heads of scientific departments in the College of Arts that obtained advanced positions in the national classification of the Colleges of Arts in Iraqi universities. Where the Department of Translation, headed by Dr. Zainab Sami Hawal, ranked first, and the Department of Information and Knowledge Technologies, headed by teacher Abdel Nabi Shanta Farag, ranked first also.

The Department of Geography and Geographical Information Systems headed by Dr. Osama Ismail Othman won the second place, the Department of English, headed by Dr. Muhammad Qassem Zaboun, ranked fourth out of 24 departments in Iraq, and the Department of Arabic Language, headed by Prof. Dr. Azhar Ali Yassin, ranked fifth out of 23 departments in Iraq.

The classification was based first: on evaluating the scientific research field, second: evaluating the field of quality improvement and program accreditation, third: evaluating the axis of faculty members and their achievements, and fourth: evaluating scientific activities (conferences, symposia , workshops, and discussions).
