At the Department of History at the College of Arts /University of Basrah, a master's thesis entitled(Book of Ezra, a historical study) was discussed.
The thesis presented by the student Nasser Raysan Karim included three chapters. The first chapter discussed the personality of Ezra and his role in writing the Torah. The second chapter included historical events in the time of Ezra and the third chapter discussed the actions of the Jews after returning to Jerusalem.
The thesis aims to identify the most important historical events in the Book of Ezra, which is one of the books of the Torah, where the most important of those events that the book spoke about were studied .
The thesis concluded that Ezra is Uzair, whose name came in Islamic sources, and that he came with a true Torah, which is from the revelation of God and his words are true, and it is the same as the Torah of Moses. As a result of the killings and destruction that happened to the Jews and during long periods, the Torah of Ezra was lost or falsified.
The thesis also touched on the fall of Babylon and that it did not fall before the Achaemenids in a day and night and that the Babylonians did not welcome Cyrus and that he was a criminal who used murder, destruction and extermination against the Babylonians and entered Babylon with the help of the Jews and that he satisfied them and brought them back to Jerusalem, also they had obtained money and great positions in Babylon, so most of them refused to return to Jerusalem, but Cyrus tempted the poor among them with money, and that Nehemiah had returned to Jerusalem before Ezra to confirm his rule.
