The Department of Translation at the College of Arts / University of Basrah held a panel discussion for postgraduate student (Master’s) Lubna Muayyad Kazem, under the title (The Conceptual Fluency in the Translation of Prefabricated Expression Units) from her thesis entitled (The Conceptual Fluency in the Translation of Prefabricated Expression Units: An Empirical Perspective) under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Faleh Saddam Al-Emara and Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Abdul-Zahra Oreibi, on Tuesday 7 June 2022.
The panel included the translation of fixed units, which in turn constitute difficulty in translating as a result for the production of a new meaning different from the literal meaning of words on their own, That is, the meaning of the part is not equal to that of all, as contained in the books and studies of Fukunier and Allison Ray. The study included a test for students of the fourth stage in the translation department. The data in this test was compiled from Menga's book (illustrated story) and then a group of experts identified any fixed terms and any non-fixed terms through the initial test of these students.
The postgraduate student pointed out to prove the problem of the research, as it became clear after analyzing the accuracy of the translation that the students deal with a problem in translating fixed terms and the solution to this problem is manifested through training students, starting from the first stages, on extracting and translating fixed expressions in all subjects, especially specialized types of translation such as legal translation, media translation, and administrative and commercial translation, whose texts are distinguished by fixed expressions in which the meaning is preserved and is not subject to manipulation or change.
