Discussion of the Student Muhammad Asad Shanawa

On Monday morning, 4 July 2022, in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah a master thesis entitled( Expressive patterns in the poetry of Abdel Moneim Al-Fartousi, a study in significance and function) was discussed.

The thesis presented by the student, Muhammad Asad Shanawa, included four chapters. The first chapter dealt with the poetic structure patterns between significance and function in the poetry of Al-Fartousi ,the second chapter discussed the grammatical structures in Al-Fartousi's poetry, the third chapter discussed the patterns of semantic openness in Al-Fartousi's poetry, and the fourth chapter focused on the patterns of displacement and transformation in the poetry of Al-Fartousi.

The thesis aims to identify :

1) semantics as a basic pillar on which linguistic studies are based, whether in words, structures or methods.

2) The functional features involved in the phonetic, grammatical, semantic and rhetorical structures in Al-Fartousi’s poetry and the association of words, structures and styles with functional meanings within their structures.

3) unveiling a great poet who is still lying under the rubble of the shadow of marginalization and oblivion, revealing the expressive secrets in his poetry.

The thesis concluded:

1) Al-Fartousi's poetry is characterized by a synthetic structure in which the vocabulary interacted with the grammatical functions to perform its semantic function in the construction of a sober poetic and amazing language that is mixed with a wonderful taste in picking up words, casting phrases, and grabbing methods.

2) The semantic function is not related to the importance of some parts of the sentence and the insignificance of others. There is no pillar and virtue within the systemic structure, but there is an arrangement of functions that gives them their importance.
