Discussion of the Student Abdul Nabi Jassim Batour’s Thesis

On Sunday morning 24/7/2022 a PhD thesis, titled (Bani Lam clans in the Ottoman era 1535_1914, a historical study), was discussed at the History Department at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah.

The thesis presented by the student Abdul Nabi Jassim Batour included four chapters. The first chapter discussed the clans of Bani Lam and the formation of the sheikhdom in Iraq, the second chapter dealt with the social and economic conditions of the Bani Lam clans, the third chapter discussed the relationship of the Bani Lam clans with the Ottoman authority and local and regional forces, and the fourth chapter dealt with the Bani Lam clans in the last Ottoman era.

The study aims to shed light on the role of the Bani Lam clans and their relationship with the Ottoman authority and other tribal forces, and to show the extent of their influence in the modern history of Iraq, a detailed review of the conditions of their sheikhdoms that lasted for more than three hundred years, and a study of their history and position among other Iraqi clans, their relations with their surroundings, and the dangers they were exposed to.
