On Sunday morning 31/7/2022 a master’s thesis, titled (Medical Industries in Basra Governorate) was discussed in the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah.

The thesis presented by the student, Balasim Al-Hassan Jarih Abd Hadi, included four chapters. The first chapter discussed the concept of medical industries, their characteristics, importance, historical development, and stages of their manufacture, the second chapter dealt with the factors of endemicity of medical industries, the third chapter discussed analyzing the structure of medical industries, and the fourth chapter dealt with the problems of medical industries and the proposed solutions to them.

The thesis aims to shed light on the concept of medical industries in Basra governorate, their types, importance, characteristics, stages of historical development and industrialization, as well as studying the factors of industrial settlement in the study area, studying their industrial structure, geographical distribution and methods of statistical analysis according to districts and according to industrial type in the governorate.

The thesis concluded:

1- Medical industries are of great importance in Basra Governorate, as they are cosmetic and therapeutic industries, whose products contribute to compensating what a person loses as they are parts of his body such as prosthetic limbs, weak eyesight, teeth, lung cirrhosis and shortness of breath.

2- The medical industries in Basra governorate are important by covering their products to the local market of the governorate, as well as delivering their products to the markets of other governorates, especially the neighboring ones.
