Discussion of the Student Wajdan Karon Freeh

On Thursday, 25/8/2022, in the Department of history at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah a PhD thesis entitled (Iran's policy towards the Central Asian republics 1991-1997)was discussed.

The thesis presented by the student wajdan Karon Freeh included five chapters.The first chapter discussed the geographical and historical roots of the Central Asian republics and their relations with Iran until 1990, the second chapter discussed the Iranian political movement in the Central Asian republics 1991-1997, the third chapter dealt with the role of Iran in the civil war in Tajikistan 1992-1997, the fourth chapter included the Iranian economic policy with the Central Asian republics 1991-1997,and the fifth chapter focused on Iran's religious and cultural policy in the Central Asian republics 1991-1997.

The thesis aims to identify the Iranian foreign policy trends in the Central Asian region after the study period marked a turning point in the policy of the Central Asian republics (Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan).

The thesis concluded that Iran's policy was balanced and accurate at the same time, as the formation of new governments in Central Asia created new and unique opportunities not only for Iran, but for regional and international powers .
