Discussion of the Student Intsar Sattar Abdul Hassan

On Thursday morning, 22/9/2022, in the Department of English at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah a master thesis entitled (The effectiveness of teaching the listening skill of Iraqi learners in secondary schools of English as a foreign language on their speaking skill) was discussed.

 

The thesis presented by the student Intsar Sattar Abdel Hassan included five chapters .The first chapter included the introductions, the second chapter included the theoretical aspect and the third chapter discussed the research method,the fourth chapter dealt with data analysis and interpretation, and the fifth chapter focused on the conclusion and suggestions.

 

 

The thesis aims to investigate the effectiveness and impact of teaching listening skills on improving the speaking skills of learners of English as a foreign language, especially their fluency in speaking English, and the next main objective of this study is to find out how teachers of English as a foreign language evaluate listening skills in comparison with other language skills ( Speaking, reading, and writing) and whether they are teaching this skill appropriately and correctly according to the guidelines of the teacher's guidebook for the described book "English for Iraq".

The results of the pre and post tests showed that there is a statistically significant difference in the achievements of the experimental group in the pre and post test in favor of the post test. The results of the questionnaire also showed that teachers of English as a foreign language evaluate the importance of listening with the same importance as other language skills.
