The Department of Translation at the College of Arts Concludes the Summer Training Initiative for the Academic Year 2021/2022

Within the framework of enhancing cooperation frameworks with state institutions and contributing to community service and developing students ' skills, the translation department initiated the summer training for a group of its students who succeeded from the third stage to the fourth stage for the morning and evening studies for the academic year 2021/2022.

This initiative, which started in April of this year, included starting with applying for it and obtaining approvals from the higher authorities, The places in which the training was conducted, directing the students and ending with their disengagement from those sites after they completed the training period on Tuesday 4/10/2022, Within four training sites,  the Basrah Governorate Office, the General Company for Electricity Production / the Southern Region, the Iraqi Industries Union Company / Basrah Chamber of Industry, and the Media Unit of the College of Arts.  The students were divided into four groups in approximately equal numbers on these sites.

The training committee, which was headed by the President of the department, prof. Zainab Sami Howel, supervised by the Assist.lect.Lamia Rashid Majed and coordinated by the student Shamous Jabbar Taher, developed an integrated curriculum for training that enhances the students’ oral and written skills in practicing the translation process based on what the student has learned in his academic career and its application in environmental training and the cadres of these sites benefits from translating and reviewing some of their documents, which were done by these students, which creates opportunities for communication with these and other sites and encourages students to enter the job market after graduation.

 

The Deanship of the college, represented by the dean, Dr. Majed Abdul Hamid Al Kaabi, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate studies, Dr. Haider Abdul Reda al Tamimi, and the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Abd Kazim Al Khafaji, called for repeating this initiative and considering it as a cornerstone for future initiatives to develop students ' skills in various translation specialties.
