Discussion of the Student Ola Ali Saleh

On Thursday morning, 13/10/2022, in the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the  College of Arts, University of Basrah a master thesis entitled ((Using digital indicators to detect wind and evaporative phenomena in Basrah Governorate and their environmental impacts) was discussed.

The thesis presented by the student Ola Ali Saleh included four chapters. The first chapter discussed the natural and human qualifications of the study area , the second chapter discussed land cover monitoring, indicators and digital clues to detect wind and evaporative phenomena ,the third chapter dealt with analyzing the characteristics, processes and factors of wind and evaporative phenomena and the resulting forms in the study area, and the fourth chapter included, the environmental effects of wind and evaporative phenomena.

The thesis aims to study the wind features and the lands of the marshes scattered in the governorate and to know their geographical distribution and the percentage of the area they occupy by relying on remote sensing technology and GIS software and using the Global Positioning System (GPS),and to build a database through which the classification of lands in the region and the geomorphological phenomena prevalent in it can be reached.

The thesis concluded that sand dunes and marshes have many environmental effects, as they greatly affected the natural environment and human activity in the study area, as they threatened and deteriorated agricultural lands, and greatly affected the main and secondary transportation routes, in addition to affecting human health, which causes many diseases.
