On Wednesday morning, 19/10/2022 in the Department of Arabic language at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah, a master thesis entitled (The historical method in the study of Abbasid literature, the efforts of Dr. Muzhir Al-Sudani as a model)was discussed.

The thesis presented by the student Fadil Aziz Muhsen included a preface and three chapters. The preface dealt with the scientific life of Dr. Muzhir Al-Sudani and his writings, the historical method in the study of literature, a general reading.The first chapter discussed the Abbasid poetry dealt with by Dr. Muzhir Al-Sudani ,the second chapter included the activities of the historical method in the studies of Dr. Muzhir Al-Sudani ,and the third chapter dealt with the advantages and disadvantages of Dr. Muzhir Al-Sudani’s employment of the historical method. 

The study aims to examine the products of one of the academic figures in the College of Arts at the University of Basrah and to determine how he studied Abbasid literature, in gratitude for the knowledge he provided while studying Abbasid literature for many generations.

The thesis concluded that Dr. Muzhir al-Sudani adopted the foundations and principles of the historical method in the study of literature, as evidenced by the various studies he presented, in which it seems obvious to pay attention to the contextual aspects surrounding the texts, whether political, social, or cultural, in addition to the interest in the translations of poets and delving into their details, which confirms the historicity of Dr. Muzhir’s research in the study of Abbasid literature.
