Discussion of the Student Azhar Abbas Ali

On Sunday morning, 23/10/2022, in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah a PhD thesis entitled (Stylistic phenomena in educational discourse in the Holy Quran) was discussed.

The thesis presented by the student Azhar Abbas Ali included three chapters preceded by a preface. The first chapter dealt with the stylistics of deletion and its suggestion, the second chapter dealt with the stylistic effect of presenting and delaying, and the third chapter on the phenomenon of repetition and its stylistic impact on the educational discourse.

 

The thesis concluded that the omission constitutes a prominent stylistic feature in the Quranic educational discourse, in contravention of the decisions of the linguistic system because of its contextual violation that goes beyond the expectation of behavior.

Presentation and delay can be considered the focus of stylistic investigations revolving around syntax, as it depends on the structural loosening of grammatical composition within the sentence.

Repetition in the Quranic educational discourse has multiple patterns with multiple functions, some of which are related to vocal balance, some are related to rhythmic consistency, some are related to semantic proportion, and some are related to textual coherence as a mechanism for interrelationship between texts, It leads to coherent and structurally consistent text structures.

 The thesis recommended the completion of the study of other stylistic phenomena.
