Discussion of the student Maha Hindi Jabr

On Sunday morning, 23/10/2022,  in the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah a master thesis entitled (The functional structure of the city of Safwan) was discussed.

 

The thesis presented by the student Maha Hindi Jabr included five chapters.The first chapter discussed the general geographical characteristics of the city of Safwan and researched,the second chapter dealt with the residential function of the city of Safwan ,the third chapter dealt with the commercial and industrial function in the city of Safwan,the fourth chapter dealt with the public community services in the city of Safwan and the fifth chapter focused on the regional relations of the city of Safwan.

The thesis aims to identify:

 

A. Studying the general geographical characteristics of the city of Safwan and the role of the site and location in the emergence and development of the city.

B.  Study the functional structure of Safwan city in terms of analyzing the urban, demographic, social and economic characteristics of the residential function and identifying the basic patterns of the commercial and industrial function and its impact on shaping the general appearance of the city.

The thesis concluded:

1. Residential use occupied the largest area in the city of Safwan, with a percentage of 61.9% of the total inhabited area in the city.

2. The potential of the location that distinguished the city of Safwan and the availability of fresh groundwater contributed to its initial establishment, and its marginal location contributed to the city's growth and expansion.
