In the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah a master thesis entitled (The Diwan of Ibn Al-Arandas: A Study of Textual Criteria (Intentionality - Acceptability - Intertextuality)) was discussed.

The thesis presented by the student, Mushtaq Khudair Shweish, included a preface and three chapters.The preface dealt with the life of the poet, the concept of the text, and approaches to the emergence of linguistic studies.The first chapter discussed the study of intentionality in the poetry of Ibn al-Arandas ,the second chapter discussed the study of acceptability in the poetry of Ibn al-Arandas, and the third chapter studies intertextuality in the poetry of Ibn al-Arandas.

The thesis aims at the development of textual linguistics in the study of linguistic phenomena, so it shifted from syntax to text. Linguistic analyzes of literary texts came on its basis, especially after the emergence of textual standards proposed by the American scholar Debo Grande and their application to texts.

Hence the idea of ​​research came to root and achieve the concepts of (intentionality - acceptability - and intertextuality) that aim to make the communicative process and the drafting of texts successful.

The thesis concluded that the poet was proficient in his language and mastered his style, as he employed the purposes of rhetoric such as metaphor, simile, metonymy, badi, and others, and took from the verbal internal context or the non-verbal external context as a way to communicate his purposes and goals to the recipient.
