Discussion of the Student Difaf Abdel Salam Hantoush

On Monday morning, 7/11/2022, in the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah a master thesis entitled (Hydromorphometric changes of the Euphrates River between Al Hindiya Dam and Al Jabayish Dam and their impact on water resources in Basrah Governorate for the period 1990 - 2020) was discussed.

The thesis presented by the student, Dr. Difaf Abdel Salam Hantoush, included four chapters. The first chapter dealt with the natural factors affecting the surface flow of the Euphrates River, the second chapter discussed the human factors, the third chapter dealt with the hydromorphometrics of the Euphrates between the Al-Hindiya Dam and Jabayish, and the fourth chapter dealt with the histomorphometric changes for the period 1990-2020.

The thesis aims to study and clarify the most important problems of the flow of the Euphrates River and its lack of levels, and to find logical solutions.

The thesis concluded:

1- The study showed that the climate and storage projects have a major role in the upper basin on the change in the volume of drainage of the Euphrates River, which affected the study area in particular.

2- The lack of drainage of the Euphrates River negatively affected the study area, and this effect will worsen in the coming years, and the drainage may be absent in the south of the basin.
