Deans of Medicine Recommend the Continuation of the Evaluation Exam in Public and Private Universities

The Committee of Deans of Medical Colleges in Iraq held a meeting in which they discussed the mechanisms of joint work, the evaluation of developments in medical education in Iraq, and the establishment of specialized colleges in light of the standards and conditions approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The members in the meeting stressed that the availability of educational hospitals accompanying the establishment of medical colleges in private universities represents a factor of reassurance in the medical and health field, stressing the importance of those developments that are conditional on follow-up and direct supervision by the Committee of Deans of Medical Colleges in Iraq, which conducts tests, selects deans, appoints medical competencies, and follows up on teaching staff, laboratories and curricula, and measuring their consistency with programs and study systems in public universities.

The deans of the medical colleges praised the decision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to fully operate the hospitals designated for the newly created medical colleges and to dedicate training in them exclusively to the students of the college itself, and to carry out scientific twinning with their counterparts from foreign universities included in the scholarship guide within a period not exceeding one year.

The deans of medical colleges in Iraq stated that the decisions to establish medical colleges in private universities since 2016 were consistent with the objective conditions required by the rising of the number of students coming to study medical specializations, as well as mitigating the effects of the financial challenges surrounding the environment of public universities.

The Deans Committee confirms that the outputs of medical colleges in Iraq are accredited by the countries of the world, and at the same time recommends the adoption and continuation of the comprehensive assessment exam for students of public and private colleges in order to enhance academic reputation and adhere to the requirements of scientific sobriety.
