The College of Arts Organizes a Scientific Trip to the Museum of Natural Biology

The Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah organized a scientific trip for fourth-stage students to the Museum of Natural Biology in the Palm Tourist Resort for the purpose of identifying a variety of natural organisms (vertebrates and invertebrates), mummified and alive, which included many types of mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, and insects that live within different natural environments, some of which are local and others are migratory (winter and summer) or transient  , as well as many organisms that live in hot and cold environments on the continents of Africa, Europe and Asia.

The trip, which was supervised by Dr. Hala Mahmoud Shaker and Dr. Maytham Abdel-Hussein, included an introductory lecture for the students by Dr. Hisham Khairallah (an expert in mummification and biology), who supervises the preparations of the museum, about the types of living creatures, their classifications, families, ranks, and the type of environments in which they live, whether  was it inside Iraq or in other countries.  The extinct species of animals -indicated previously - within the Iraqi environments, the species threatened with extinction within the IUCN global list, the type and degree of threat to which they are exposed, and the causes and factors contributing to that were defined.
