An Expanded Seminar in the Department of Arabic Language Entitled: ((The World Cup in Arab Countries: Orientalist Reading))

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Arts, Prof. Dr. Majid Abdul Hamid Al-Kaabi, the Department of Arabic Language held an expanded seminar on the World Cup - Qatar 2022 - entitled ((The World Cup in Arab Countries: Oriental Reading)), in the conference hall of the College of Arts, in the presence of a big number of college professors, and researchers interested in cultural affairs.

 

The seminar included several research papers presented by postgraduate/doctoral students in the Department of Arabic Language, and presented by Prof. Dr. Majed Abdel Hamid Al Kaabi, who emphasized the clarification of the relationship between sports and Orientalism, wondering how the academic contributes to the study of what is contemporary?  , and presenting a brief analysis of the speech of the Emir of Qatar and his use of some indicative terms.

 

Dr. Majed Abdel Hamid drew attention to the fact that all the Arab fans came to Qatar as if they were supporting one team, with great support from the Emir of Qatar, unlike the fans of other teams, where each of them came to support his team only.  Dr. Majed also talked about the significance of the Moroccan goalkeeper's avoidance of speaking in foreign languages ​​and his insistence on speaking in Arabic and his Moroccan dialect.

 The research papers presented at the seminar discussed the World Cup from various aspects.
