Discussion of Student Haider Abdul Hassan Majeed

On Thursday morning, 12/1/2023, in the Department of history at the college of Arts at the University of Basrah a PhD thesis entitled ((The political and economic role of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries towards Lebanon 1989-2008)) was discussed.

 

The thesis presented by the student, Haider Abdel-Hassan Majeed, included four chapters. The first chapter discussed the positions of the Gulf countries on the Lebanese issue 1975-1988, the second chapter included the role of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in approving the Taif Agreement and supporting the stability of Lebanon 1989-1997, the third chapter discussed the positions of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries regarding the political and security developments in Lebanon 1998-2008 and the approval of the Doha Agreement, and the fourth chapter deals with the economic role of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in Lebanon 1989-2008.

The thesis aims to identify the political and economic role of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in Lebanon.

The thesis concluded that the GCC countries, by their political influence and economic role, have played an important role in finding solutions to the Lebanese crisis, especially through the Taif Agreement of 1989 and Doha Agreement of 2008.
