Discussion of Student Khadija Weshah Hammoud’s Thesis

 On Monday morning, 13/2/2022, a master's thesis, entitled (electronic archiving in higher education institutions in Basra Governorate: an analytical study) was discussed in the Department of Information and Knowledge Technologies at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah.

 The thesis presented by the student, Khadija Weshah Hammoud, included five chapters. The first chapter discussed the problem, the goal, the importance, the limits, the approach followed in the study, and the study community, the second chapter included the concept, importance, and historical development of archive in general, the third chapter dealt with the types of systems used in higher education institutions, the fourth chapter touched on the field study to know the reality of the application of electronic archiving in institutions of higher education in the universities of Basra, and the fifth chapter discussed the results and recommendations of the study.

 The aim of the thesis is to identify the reality of electronic archiving in the universities of Basrah, define the criteria for the success of electronic archiving, define the values ​​of benefiting from electronic archiving applications in terms of storage and retrieval, and identify the technical, administrative and financial reasons that affect electronic archiving in university institutions included in the field of study.

 The thesis concluded:

 The application of electronic archiving in higher education institutions in the universities of Basra by (27) institutions, which constitute (58.6%) of the total education institutions in the universities of Basra, which reach (46) educational institutions, whether from the presidencies of universities and colleges or from research centers and central libraries. While electronic archiving was not applied in some of these institutions, as traditional archiving is still used, which totals (19) institutions and constitutes (41.4%).
