On Monday morning, 3/20/2023, a master's thesis entitled (Al-Hakim's Representations in Umayyad Poetry) was discussed in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah.
The thesis presented by the student Daham Saadoun Abdel Aziz included four chapters. The first chapter discussed traditional representations, the second chapter discussed religious representations, the third chapter dealt with political representations, and the fourth chapter included artistic characteristics.
The thesis aims to explain the position of the Umayyad poet towards the ruler, and to reveal the nature of poetry, which he portrays and depicts everything that surrounds him in the various aspects of life.
The thesis concluded that all the representations that we stood at (traditional, religious and political) came through two images: one of them is the exaltation and glorification of the ruler and the other renounce him and underestimate him. The first image is the dominant one because of the poets' greed for the Umayyad gifts.
