At the Department of Library and Information/ the College of Arts, a higher diploma entitled The Authority File of the Names of Iraqi Bodies in the Library and Manuscript House in Al Abbasiah Holy Shrine, an evaluation study, was discussed .
The research that submitted by the researcher Sajjad Muhammad Hasan, consists of four chapters. The first chapter shows the general framework of the research, while the second chapter concerns with the theoretical part of the research. The third chapter discusses the field research. Finally, the fourth chapter exposes the results and recommendations.
The research aims at evaluating the authority file of the names of Iraqi bodies in the Library and Manuscript House in Al Abbasiah Holy Shrine through the technical procedures that the indexers follow in the Center of Indexing and Information Systems.
The research discusses the indexers' use for a set of basic data fields that are used in forming authority records, which are (12) fields of Mar 21. In addition to that, the research investigates the result of matching between the names of Iraqi bodies and the authority files such as the Unified Arabic Index, the Library of Congress, and the International default authority file.
The research is concluded that it can be utilized of the experience of the library and manuscripts of Al Abbasiah Holy Shrine in building up the authority files and apply them inside and outside Iraq. Moreover, the research concentrates on the necessity of existing a periodic review of authority files to know the missing ones and to work on update them.
