Coinciding with the celebration of the founding anniversary of the University of Basrah, the Department of Translation at the College of Arts held a poetry festival for students, which was held entitled "Palm Translator".

The festival was opened with a speech from the Deanship of the College delivered by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Dr. Haider Abdel-Ridha Al-Tamimi, with the participation of a group of college professors and a group of students.

The festival also included reciting some patriotic and emotional poems in classical Arabic. The attendees also praised the organization and cultural value of what was presented at the festival, calling for the repetition of such occasions to allow students to showcase their literary skills.
