Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Dr. Haider Abdul-Ridha Al-Tamimi, the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the College of Arts at the University of Basra organized a scientific seminar entitled (Readings in Environmental Changes of the Shatt Al-Arab River).
The seminar dealt with several research papers, the most important of which are:
The first paper by Professor Dr. Hassan Khalil Al-Mahmoud and researched (the reality and future of water in Basra Governorate in light of climate changes) and showed through the research that the year 2025 will witness damage to (1.8) billion people in the world and by the year 2025 water consumption will increase by 15%, and the researcher explained the effect population increase on the scarcity, depletion, and pollution of water, While the researcher, Dr. Shukri Ibrahim Al-Hassan, participated in the second lecture with a working paper entitled (An environmental view of salt concentrations and red algae in the Shatt Al-Arab River),In the third research paper, Assistant Professor Dr. Sorour Abdel-Amir touched on (the location and seasonal variation of the levels of organic pollution in the Siba Canal in southern Iraq). At the end of the seminar, lect .Dr. Kholoud, dealt with the (environmental effects of high water salinity).
