Under the patronage of the President of the University of Basrah, Prof. Dr. Saad Shaheen, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Arts, Prof. Dr. Majid Al-Kaabi, the students of the Arabic Language Department held a large memorial ceremony on the occasion of the martyrdom of Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib, peace be upon him, in the theater hall of the College of Arts.

The ceremony, which was attended by the Dean of the College, Head of the Arabic Language Department, and a large number of instructors, students and some literary figures in the province, included a number of activities about this great Islamic and human personality. The ceremony began with verses from the Holy Quran, then reading Surat Al-Fatihah and the speech of the Department of Arabic Language delivered by Dr. Yassin Azab, then a speech about the occasion delivered by Dr. Khalil Khalaf, then poetry readings and a theatrical show.
