Discussion of the Student Ahmed Hadi Abboudi

On Sunday morning 4/30/2023, a master thesis entitled: (Rhetorical Formation of Discourse - A Study of Ancient Arabic Criticism) was discussed in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah.

The thesis presented by the student Ahmed Hadi Abboudi included a preface and three chapters. The preface dealt with discourse and rhetorical formation. The first chapter discussed the metaphorical formation of the critical discourse, the second chapter dealt with the figurative formation of the critical discourse, and the third chapter included the metaphorical formation of the critical discourse.

The thesis aims to demonstrate the necessity of rhetorical formation in the production of critical knowledge and to reveal the ability of rhetorical tools and rhetorical methods in critical discourse to influence and persuade the circle of receiving critical judgments, which requires a deep research in rhetorical formation at the semantic level produced by critical use, and the functional dimension.

The thesis concluded:

It is the rhetorical practices that the critic employs in his epistemological discourse at the level of rhetorical formation. The rhetorical meanings are latent as mental semantics of the verbal graphic functions, hence the metaphor is the plastic movement in the art of indirect expression, which creates room for semantic displacement.
