Discussion of the Student Aqil Abdul Hussein Sajit

A PhD thesis entitled (the problem of translating the philosophical text: a critical vision) was discussed in the Department of English at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah.

The thesis presented by student Aqil Abdul Hussein Sajit included five chapters. The first chapter discussed the introduction, the second chapter discussed the relationship between translation and philosophy, the third chapter dealt with philosophical approaches to translation, the fourth chapter included analysis, and the fifth chapter dealt with results and recommendations.

The thesis aims to identify the problem of translating the philosophical text and to clarify the most important obstacles facing the translator and the proposed approaches to overcome the difficulties of translation.

The thesis concluded that the translation of the philosophical text differs from similar patterns of translation of other texts, such as literary or scientific texts, because the philosophical text is based on a special pattern of thinking and a specific use of concepts and terminology. The translator of a philosophical text must be well versed in the history of ideas and familiar with philosophical schools.

The thesis recommended:

There should be greater interest in translating philosophical texts, and the allocation of scientific bodies containing qualified translators who have the ability to understand and transfer ideas from the original text into Arabic.
