An Instructor from the University of Basrah Participates in an International Scientific Conference at the University of Diyala

On the occasion of World Water Day, an instructor in the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abd al-Wahhab al-Asadi, participated in the international scientific conference held by the University of Diyala in cooperation with UNESCO entitled (Accelerating Change).

 

The instructor discussed in his research paper the most important hydrological risks of some valleys of western Iraq and how to calculate them with modern technical implications.

The conference also discussed several axes, the most prominent of which was research on ways to achieve sustainable water security, sustainable water and energy, water pollution and its environmental and health effects, climate change and its impact on water properties, water resources in Iraq and ways to develop them, as well as discussing water and its impact on the distribution of human settlements and modern technologies and their impact on water and sanitation management. It should be noted that the conference aims to achieve a future vision for water sustainability in light of the slogan put forward by the United Nations (un water) on the occasion of World Water Day (accelerating change). Attention is focused on accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis, because water affects us all, and the world's commitment to achieving the sixth goal of the sustainable development goals, which is part of the 2030 plan that enables everyone to manage water and sanitation safely, and the goals of the conference are in harmony with the vision of the United Nations which emphasizes the importance of enhancing the efficiency of water use at all levels, taking into account the interdependence of water, food, energy and the environment by creating sustainable cities and communities.
