Discussion of the Student Wasfi Abd Sahi

On Sunday morning 5/14/2023, a master  thesis was discussed in the Department of History at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah entitled ((The Book of the Seeker History of Ibn Al-Majawar d. 690 AH / 1291 AD - a source for studying the general conditions in the Arabian Peninsula until the end of the seventh AH / thirteenth century AD )).

 

The thesis presented by the student Wasfi Abed Sahi included four chapters.The first chapter discussed the description of the book, the biography of its author, and the geographical journey,the second chapter discussed the political conditions of the Arabian Peninsula from the book “The History of the Seeker” , the third chapter dealt with the economic conditions in the Arabian Peninsula according to Ibn Al-Majawar, and the fourth chapter included the commercial conditions and monetary exchange.

 

The thesis aims to identify the general conditions of the Arabian Peninsula, the Hijaz and Yemen during the seventh century AH / the thirteenth century AD, and the impact of travelers in highlighting these conditions that were not mentioned by historians and travelers who preceded Ibn Al-Majawar.

The thesis concluded:

The author of the journey, Ibn Al-Majawar, possessed accuracy with his political and commercial information, being an eyewitness to the events of this region, as well as the author high culture, and despite his Persian origins, he was moderate in cultural rhetoric.
