Discussion of the Student Akram Ali Muhammad

A PhD thesis entitled (spatial analysis of commercial land uses in the city of Nasiriyah) was discussed in the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah.

The thesis presented by researcher Akram Ali Mohamed included five chapters. The first chapter discussed the historical development of the commercial function in the city of Nasiriyah for the period (1869 AD - 2022 AD),the second chapter discussed the natural and human factors affecting the commercial function of the city of Nasiriyah,the third chapter dealt with the analysis and distribution of patterns of commercial establishments in the city of Nasiriyah ,the fourth chapter included a geographical analysis of the commercial function in the city of Nasiriyah, and the fifth chapter dealt with the problems of the commercial function and its future prospects in the city of Nasiriyah for the year 2022.

 

The study aims to identify the reality of the commercial function and the expansion, development and urban growth that befell it since the inception of the city. 

The study concluded that the size of the city  population at the beginning of its establishment was concentrated in only four neighborhood, including Al-Sharqiya, Al-Suwaij, Al-Sabaia and Al-Jami.

The study recommended the necessity of paying attention to the historical center of the city of Nasiriyah, establishing shopping centers and malls along the two banks of the Euphrates River, limiting the opening of commercial establishments randomly.
