A PhD thesis was discussed in the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the College of Arts at the University of Basra (Urban transport in the city of Abu al-Khasib (evaluation, analysis and design) using modern technologies).

The thesis presented by the student ,Wajdy Lafta Ali  Al Ramadan included four chapters. The first chapter discussed the historical development of urban transport in the city of Abi al-Khasib using modern technologies for the period (1982 AD - 2021 AD),the second chapter deals with the factors affecting the uses of urban transport in the city of Abu al-Khasib,the third chapter analyzed and evaluated the land uses for urban transport in the city of Abu al-Khasib ,and the fourth chapter included the design of urban transport uses for the streets of the city of Abu al-Khasib.

The study aims to identify the assessment, analysis and design of land uses for urban transport in the city of Abu al-Khasib using modern spatial techniques to come up with a design for future urban transport uses that are more suitable for population increase and the number of cars that are increasing explosively in the city.

The study concluded:

1. The city of Abi al-Khasib suffered from poverty in terms of spatial expansion from 2002 to the present day, which was reflected in the urban land uses in general and the urban transport uses in particular.

2. The urban sprawl from 2002 to 2021 increased significantly with the increase in migration to the city, which led to the deterioration of the services provided to the city.

3. The population growth that took place in the city of Abi al-Khasib between 2002-2021 is not limited to the natural population increase, as the population increase was very high in years and in very small years, and in 2021 the population of the city was 253,656 people.
