Discussion of Student Muhannad Wadi Rahima’s Thesis

A master’s thesis, entitled “the oil industry and its impact in the UAE 1971-1985 AD, a historical study), was discussed in the Department of History at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah.

The thesis presented by the researcher Muhannad Wadi Rahima included four chapters. The first chapter discussed the general conditions in the emirates of the coast of Oman and the development of the oil industry there until 1971, the second chapter discussed the establishment of the United Arab Emirates and its impact on the development of oil policy 1971-1985, the third chapter dealt with the impact of the oil industry on the economic developments of the United Arab Emirates 1971-1985, and the fourth chapter included the impact of the oil industry on the social developments of the UAE 1971-1985.

The thesis aims to identify the potential of the oil industry and its impact on the UAE from the political, economic and social aspects.

The thesis concluded that the oil industry in the UAE has made a major historical turning point in modernizing the conditions of the Emirates politically, economically and socially after it lacked the simplest means of living, in addition to the role that Sheikh Zayed played in harnessing the oil resource to serve the Emirati people and their development in all areas of life.
