The University of Basra participated in the 2023 World University Games Championship, which is hosted by the city of Yekaterinburg, Russia, through an official delegation headed by the Vice President of the University and the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Dr. Falah Hassan Shri, Dean of Al-Zahra College of Medicine, Dr. Mazen Al-Hawaz, Dr. Naim Sabah and Dr. Hussein Al-Nour, as well as the training staff from the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences.

The championship activities started with the participation of most universities in the world, including the University of Basra, which represented Iraq in the championship.

Shri confirmed that the championship includes 14 types of different sports, and Iraq participated in six types, including futsal, basketball, badminton, boxing, taekwondo and judo.
